Over two action-packed days, Raiffeisen Tech employees came together for a hackathon like no other — a unique blend of AI innovation, hands-on experimentation, and team collaboration. This was an open space where anyone could join in, teaming up to explore how agentic AI can streamline everyday workflows and speed up software delivery in real-world settings.
In Raiffeisen Tech hackathons aren’t mere one-off competitions or gamified exercises. They are an integral part of our continuous development journey — a dedicated space where learning meets real-world application, and AI use cases become part of everyday work.
Fifteen participants joined six groups and spent 14 hours tackling two hands-on challenges. Each team, made up of diverse skills in development- drew one of the two tasks. Throughout the hackathon, teams regularly gathered insights and mapped out their next moves. Guided by experienced mentors, participants continuously tested and refined the AI-powered solutions in real time. The event was wrapped up with a live demo session where each team showcased their results.
The hackathon challenged participants with two specific tasks. The first was to design a prototype of the CashFlow Manager app, using AI to intelligently manage the cash flow of micro and small businesses. This mobile-first solution, designed for integration with mobile banking, was to analyze transactional data, forecasts financial flows, and generate recommendations for managing funds and/or tailored banking products.
The second task involved creating the Cost Approval Application — a centralized system for managing expenses that replaced scattered, manual processes based on e-mails and spreadsheets. The app enabled submitting structured cost requests, approving them, and fully tracking the process, ensuring transparency, data standardization, and an audit trail, which significantly improves cost control and reduces the risk of errors.
Creation of a prototype AI mobile-first application supporting micro and small enterprises in managing financial liquidity. The application was to analyze transactional data, forecast cash flows/ risks, and generate recommendations for effective funds management or choosing appropriate banking products, demonstrating how a bank can become an active financial partner for its clients.
Creation of a centralized system for managing contractor costs, replacing manual, fragmented processes based on emails and spreadsheets. The application enabled submission, approval, and tracking of cost requests, ensuring transparency, data standardization, and a complete audit trail, improving cost control and reducing the risk of errors by addressing organizational challenges through digitization and automation.
The hackathon was set up in a tech environment as close as possible to the real project conditions at RBI Group. This gave participants not just a playground for experimentation, but also a chance to test solutions with an eye on actual implementation.
A key player was the RBI LLM Gateway — a secure infrastructure that lets teams use AI models while sticking to internal security and compliance standards.
GitHub Copilot was another game-changer, speeding up coding and letting teams focus more on business logic and solution architecture rather than getting bogged down in technical details.
The hackathon also leaned on structured approaches like BMAD and SpecKit to guide teams through defining requirements, designing architecture, and organizing their work. These methods doubled as a practical benchmark to see how useful such frameworks are in real life.
Importantly, all solutions were built from scratch, without relying on pre-written code. This approach gave a clear, honest look at how AI tools can be used throughout the development process.
A heartfelt thank you to the organizers and participants for creating a space to learn, experiment, and collaborate across international teams. It is this spirit of teamwork and shared problem-solving that truly made the event a success.
