Wrapping Up the First International GenAI Raiffeisen Tech Hackathon

Imagine: over 60 AI enthusiasts from Poland, Romania, and Kosovo, 16 teams, 48 hours of intensive coding and experimenting with the latest agent-based artificial intelligence technologies. This was not an ordinary hackathon — it was a true international adventure that demonstrated how collaboration and fun can drive innovation in banking while also improving everyday work.

For two intense days, Raiffeisen Tech brought together AI enthusiasts from Poland, Romania, and Kosovo for the first edition of our International GenAI Raiffeisen Tech Hackathon. This event was more than a competition — it became a dynamic space for innovation, collaboration, and practical experiments with the latest AI technologies shaping the future of banking software development and delivering real improvements to our work.

True international collaboration

In Warsaw, Bucharest, Pristina, and… home offices — over 60 of our developers, backend and frontend specialists, AI experts, and business analysts, divided into 16 diverse teams, joined forces to solve real RBI challenges. Some onsite in Warsaw, others in Bucharest, Pristina, or remotely, using GitHub Copilot, VSCode, and spec-driven development methods (SpecKit, BMAD), they created prototypes that not only worked but had the potential to genuinely improve daily banking operations.

2 Use Cases

Four challenges, four innovation directions

Each team chose one of four tasks addressing specific business needs. The challenge was simple: present a demo of a working application for the chosen case.

  • Business Trip Assistant
An app to help employees schedule business trips, book flights and hotels, and automatically manage agendas. The user interacts with a Microsoft Teams assistant integrated with external APIs to suggest itineraries, handle approvals, and generate expense reports. The goal is to automate and streamline business trip organization.
  • Code Review Assistant
A tool for automated pull request code analysis tailored to internal banking standards. It detects security vulnerabilities, compliance gaps, architectural violations, prioritizes review comments, generates summaries for non-technical stakeholders, and learns from reviewer feedback to improve over time. The aim is to increase review efficiency and code quality.
  • 360 Feedback & Skill Matrix HR Tool
A comprehensive HR tool for anonymous 360-degree feedback surveys and skill matrix management. It allows configuring feedback cycles, collecting and analyzing data, generating individual and team reports, and identifying skill gaps. This solution replaces the current external vendor, reducing costs and increasing customization and control.
  • Webdesk Replacement App
An app to replace the current Webdesk system used at RBI, supporting daily time logging, holiday and event booking, meeting room reservations, overtime registration, and consultant time tracking. Detailed functionalities will be further defined by the RBI Business Analyst. The goal is to improve and modernize internal operational processes.

Demo, Feedback, and Fun

The event concluded with presentations before an international jury that appreciated the innovation and practical AI approach. But most importantly — knowledge exchange, relationship building, and the feeling that together we can achieve more.

At Raiffeisen Tech, hackathons are not just competitions — they are spaces where technology meets passion and collaboration. Places where AI stops being an abstraction and becomes a tool for everyday work.

Several clear glass awards are arranged on a dark presentation table. The awards have a faceted, polygonal shape and stand upright on rectangular glass bases. Soft lighting highlights the transparent surfaces and engraved text on the trophies. The background is slightly blurred, drawing focus to the front award.

On the podium were: first place went to the FIREFLY team from Kosovo, closely followed by RAG & Roll, also from Kosovo, who additionally won the audience award for the best demo. Third place was shared by the RoKo (international) and Mosaic Minds (Kosovo) teams. It was a true feast for AI and innovation enthusiasts!

1st Place — FIREFLY

FIREFLY built the most complete and production-ready submission in the entire hackathon. Their WEBDesk replacement stood out not just for covering leave, overtime, room booking, and a bookables platform, but for how professionally it was done — structured logging, health probes, CI pipeline with automated tests, and a clean contract-first API approach. The technology choices were solid and well-integrated, and the team demonstrated excellent engineering discipline throughout. Judges recognized this as the most polished and deployment-ready product of the day.

2nd Place — RAG & Roll

RAG & Roll delivered one of the most technically ambitious submissions — an AI-native employee self-service platform with a conversational assistant that could genuinely answer employee questions and complete workflows using real tool calls and vector-search over labour-law documents. The technology stack was modern and well-chosen, the codebase was clean and consistently structured, and the CI pipeline ran tests against a real database. Judges awarded excellent scores for usability and demo quality — this was a product that clearly worked, and it impressed in the room.

3rd Place — RoKo

RoKo won over the judges with their innovative approach to AI-assisted development and an impressive deployment setup. The team used a structured multi-lane AI development process with transparent changelogs and defined acceptance criteria — a mature way of working that showed in the quality of the result. The technology was well-organized and the integration with AI tools was creative and effective. Judges gave excellent marks for innovation and demo quality, recognizing a team that mastered both the product and the process behind it.

3rd Place — Mosaic Minds

Mosaic Minds stood out with outstanding documentation and a genuinely feature-rich Business Trip Assistant. Their README and architecture materials were clear, well-structured, and told a compelling product story — a rare quality in a hackathon. The application covered the full trip lifecycle with real attention to user experience, and the team implemented smart resilience measures to ensure the demo always worked flawlessly. Judges rewarded them with excellent marks for UI polish, innovation, and usability — reflecting a product that looked great and understood its users.

What’s next?

The success of this edition is just the beginning. Ahead are more events to grow the community of experts and practical AI applications in banking, as well as to strengthen international cooperation and the positive energy that drives us forward.

Thanks to all participants, mentors, and organizers — together we are creating the future of technology at Raiffeisen Tech!
