Digital Detox and cyberhygiene: how to maintain balance in a digital world

In a world where most of our work and personal life takes place online, it’s easy to forget about the balance between the digital and the real. Long hours in front of screens, constant notifications, and the pressure to always stay responsive can lead to stress, burnout, and reduced productivity. That’s why it’s worth introducing principles of digital detox and cyber hygiene, which help protect both mental health and data security.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month

This October, we are joining the global “Cybersecurity Awareness Month”, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of online safety. During our Cyber-Safe October, we will share practical tips for secure remote and office work and show you how to effectively protect yourself against different types of attacks. Stay tuned!

1. Mindful Use of Technology

  • Plan your screen time and take regular breaks.
  • Turn off non-essential app notifications.
  • Use focus modes or the “do not disturb” function on your phone and computer.

2. Cyber Hygiene as a Daily Habit

  • Regularly update systems, apps, and devices.
  • Organize emails and files, delete unnecessary data, and archive important documents.
  • Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication.

3. Digital Detox in Practice

  • Set “offline” hours during the day—for example, put your phone and laptop away in the evening.
  • Spend time in nature or with loved ones without electronic devices.
  • Reflect on which apps you really need and remove those that only distract you.

4. Combining Balance and Security

Cyber hygiene and digital detox go hand in hand—mindful technology use not only protects your time and mental health but also reduces the risk of accidentally sharing data or falling victim to cyber threats.

Remember by maintaining balance between online and offline life, you gain peace of mind, better health, and stronger data security—for yourself and your entire team.
